Jennie and John Truman, owners and operators of the Blue and Green Rooms have been serving the community from the Mintee Street store for over 30 years
The Blue and Green Rooms are located in the original Point Lookout Store. The store was owned and operated by Beryl and Ronnie Moore back in the '60s. It was the only shop at the Point and stocked everything from groceries to fishing gear and was also a library. They lived in the cottage "Innesfree" attached to the shop.
Our family purchased the property in 1973. Through the years it remained a general store until we renovated the building removing the asbestos. We divided the long, narrow shop into two areas. One of these areas was the DRIFT Gallery for many years.
The Green Room was created in 2011 to supply the community and its visitors with healthy, fresh foods including organic and gluten-free options alongside other unique dietary options. We purchased a second-hand truck and began our journey into the wholesale fruit and vegetable trade traveling to Rocklea twice a week.
What's in a name? A Song.
The inspiration for the names of our shops The Blue and The Green comes from our love of island surf culture.
The song 'Into the Blue' by G. Wayne Thomas from the soundtrack of the cult surf movie ' Crystal Voyager' describes the feeling of surfing out of a barrel [the green room] into the Blue of the sky.
Check out our amazing wave doorway leading from the Green Room and into the Blue Room- representing this wave. It was created and constructed by our very talented friend Paul Antonieff.
